英国有几所圣三一学院?
在爱尔兰首都都柏林,有3所大学被公认称为the Trinties。 即: Trinity College Dublin(杜伦大学) the University of Dublin The Protestant Ascendancy and its universities were founded on the principle that education should be the property of the elite. The establishment of a university in Ireland's capital was meant to serve as a bulwark against Catholic influence at other Irish institutions. In addition, it would provide an opportunity for wealthy young Protestants to study at home rather than travelling to continental Europe. Thus, when it came time to fund universities in 1592 King Henry IV ordered “that all monasteries…of which there are any in this realm not having a charter or royal licence shall be suppressed” (Pakenham, 246). He followed up by issuing an edict that year “for removing of Monks out of Ireland”(Edwards,280-2). By the end of his reign he had succeeded in suppressing most of Ireland’s Catholic religious houses, with the exception of those in Galway.
As the Anglican Church became established during the seventeenth century, it also began to take control of educational opportunities. This was largely due to Archbishop James Ussher who saw education as vital in order to spread the Reformation. Under his patronage, colleges were set up in the major cities across Ireland – including one at the very site where St. Patrick is said to have banished Satan from Ireland, therefore creating what we now know as Trinity College.
Trinity College has grown considerably since then, adding new buildings over the course of two centuries until it reached its present size. It still functions today as a university, serving both Protestant and Catholic students equally without regard to religion. It maintains strong links with its founding principles even while incorporating much more recent developments within higher education. For example, it recently opened a £57 million science block after raising funds from sources throughout Ireland and abroad. And just last month, it announced plans to build a medical school that will train physicians for future generations. These projects continue to uphold old traditions while adapting to fit modern needs making sure that it remains relevant well into the future. At times like
